Student Involvement in Your Care

We are a teaching practice affiliated with the Midwifery Education Programs at Toronto Metropolitan and McMaster Universities, as well as TMU’s International Midwifery Pre-registration Program. Students will accompany midwives in all aspects of client care. We appreciate your family's involvement in the education of new midwives!

flannery cross (olive team)

Hello, my name is Flannery Cross (she/her), and I am currently a second-year student at TMU in the MEP program. I live in the West end of Toronto and have for the past 4 years. I have a previous undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, with a minor in international development, from Dalhousie University in Halifax. After graduating from Dalhousie during the pandemic I moved to Toronto to be closer to my family. I realized that I wanted to shift directions to pregnancy and birth work after spending time with my younger cousin, who was born premature at 24 weeks, and watching her care as she progressed through the health care system. What initially drew me to midwifery was my family’s history with midwives, the amazing birth experiences that the birthing people in my family had with their midwives, and the core principles of midwifery care. I enjoy connecting and building relationships with people, along with the labour support and postpartum care that midwives provide. I strongly believe in continuity of care and the informed choice models that are the foundations of midwifery. I am extremely excited to be placed at Kensington Midwives, and to learn as much as I can from my preceptors and the clinic!

Inkar Artygalina (Green team)

Hi! I’m Inkar, I’m a second-year midwifery student and I’m thrilled to be starting my very first placement with Kensington Midwives!

I’m originally from Kazakhstan and came to Canada 12 years ago to pursue my education. Before discovering midwifery, I studied Ecology and Environmental Science and spent a lot of time studying bees. My background in ecology taught me that communities thrive when diversity is honoured and relationships are cared for. These principles continue to anchor me as I learn and grow into the role of a midwife.

When I’m not studying, you’ll usually find me knitting, crocheting, or trying a new questionable recipe in the kitchen. I also love hiking, although my friends might disagree because I tend to stop every few minutes to identify plants, admire bugs, or share unsolicited bee facts. (Apparently, not everyone wants a nature documentary on their walk, news to me!)

I’m also a native Russian speaker and would be happy to support my Russian-speaking clients with their communication needs.

I’m excited to learn, connect, and be part of your care team!

Mia Rodney (yellow team)

My name is Mia (she/her), and I am a fourth-year midwifery student at Toronto Metropolitan University. Before studying midwifery, I earned a BSc in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph while pole vaulting for their varsity track and field team. While in Guelph, my interests in reproductive healthcare and working in a team environment led me to want to pursue midwifery as a career. In my spare time, I enjoy going for walks with my rescue dog Arlo, getting coffee with friends, doing yoga, and baking. I am very happy to be working in my hometown of Toronto and excited to be a part of the Kensington Midwives community for the next year!

Caitlin Stallwood (purple team)

My name is Caitlin, and I’m a student midwife. I was born in Wales and raised in Thunder Bay before moving to Vancouver to complete my undergraduate degree in biology at the University of British Columbia. In 2023, I relocated to Toronto to begin my midwifery studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, driven by a longstanding passion for providing care in a healthcare setting. Inspired by my mother’s path in midwifery, I feel deeply connected to this work, and honoured to be following in her footsteps as I develop my own approach to supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Alongside my midwifery training, I am a certified personal trainer with a specialization in the antenatal and postpartum periods. My work focuses on resistance training and functional movement, with an emphasis on supporting strength, recovery, and overall well-being throughout pregnancy and beyond. I am particularly passionate about integrating evidence-based exercise into perinatal care to empower women physically and enhance their birth and postpartum experiences.

Ray Rubinoff (orange team)

My name is Rachel Rubinoff (she/her), though I usually go by Ray, and I am a second-year student in the Midwifery Education Program at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am excited to be completing my first placement with Kensington Midwives.

My interest in pregnancy and birth began at a young age and grew through my studies in biology, chemistry, and genetics. I began my undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences at McGill University, where I initially planned to pursue a career in medicine. Through my learning, I discovered midwifery and was immediately drawn to its emphasis on informed choice, continuity of care, and building meaningful relationships with clients. I returned to Toronto to pursue the Midwifery Education Program and focus on a field I feel deeply passionate about.

I was born and raised in Toronto and value providing respectful, client-centred care that honours each person’s unique background and experiences. Outside of my studies, I enjoy working with my hands through creative projects, including crafting and crocheting. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from the Kensington team and to support clients throughout their care.
